A practitioner's guide to the 06:00 IST compliance sweep

Most missed filings are not knowledge failures, they are calendar failures. A structured daily sweep at the start of the working day catches them while there is still time to act.

Compliance teams rarely miss a due date because nobody knew the law. They miss it because the challan needed a bank approval that did not come through, or the client's payroll sign-off slipped by two days, or the person who normally files was on leave. Those are operational failures, and operational failures respond to routine.

The routine we recommend is a single sweep at the start of every working day, before the inbox opens. Three buckets: what is due in the next seven days, what is overdue by any amount, and what is blocked on someone outside the compliance team. Anything in the third bucket gets an escalation that names a person and a deadline, not a status update.

Seven days is not arbitrary. EPF ECR and ESI contributions cluster on the 15th, several state professional tax payments fall on the 20th, and half-yearly returns land in January and July. A seven-day horizon means a payment problem discovered on the 9th still has a working week of runway; a three-day horizon does not.

The second discipline is proof at the point of filing. A filing is not complete when the payment goes out; it is complete when the challan or acknowledgement is attached against the obligation with a date and a filer name. Teams that treat proof capture as a month-end clean-up task spend audit season reconstructing evidence they already had.

Complyuva runs this sweep for you at 06:00 IST and escalates to the consultant and then to the firm owner when an item stays unfiled. But the practice discipline matters more than the tool: if nobody owns the escalation, the alert is just another notification.

Key takeaways

  • Run one daily sweep: due in 7 days, overdue, blocked externally.
  • Escalations must name a person and a date.
  • Capture proof at the moment of filing, not at month end.
